GKCOA softball &
baseball Information

The goals of GKCOA-Baseball/Softball are to increase the quality, professionalism and numbers of baseball and softball umpires in the Greater Kansas City area. To achieve these goals, we strive to better train our umpires, increase their knowledge of rules and mechanics, keep them updated on MSHSAA development, conduct meetings and clinics, and simply be available to provide any assistance we can to umpires regardless of age or experience.
We also serve as the liaison with MSHSAA and the Suburban Conference working closely with MSHSAA reps Terry Stevens (baseball Rules Interpreter) Bob Jones (baseball Mechanics Clinician) and Anita Robinet (softball Rules Interpreter and Mechanics Clinician) and Suburban Conference assignor Dan Ogle.
If you have questions or need more information, please contact Vice-President of Baseball-Softball Terry Stevens at 816-898-0711 or Tstevenskc@aol.com.
GKCOA Rules Clinics
GKCOA will be sponsoring a series of baseball and softball rules clinics beginning in December. They will be conducted by myself, Terry Hessenflow, Trent Delmont, Anita Robinett, and Gary Wheeler. While sponsored by GKCOA, they are open to anyone and free. These meetings do not fulfill any MSHSAA requirements. FOR GKCOA MEMBERS: To be eligible to vote in future GKCOA elections, you must attend 50% of meetings held by GKCOA.
BASEBALL:
The first baseball meetings will be held December 2nd and December 16th. The meetings will be held at the ISD Offices 201 N. Forest, Independence, MO from 7-9 PM. Bring your rule books (your digital ones are fine) and something to write with. Subsequent meetings will be announced later, but plan on them being on the first and third Tuesdays of the month. At this time, there is no plan to Zoom the clinics.
We had more instances this spring of umpires not knowing the rules or their applications than is acceptable. We hope to improve that with these clinics
SOFTBALL:
We are definitely planning on holding similar clinics for softball and will release details when they become available.
